Global Connections:
Somalia & Nashville

Nashville has a large and growing connection to Somalia.  We explored the nature of contemporary politics in Somalia, the history of music there, "norms engineering" in Somalia, and life of Somalis in Nashville with Vanderbilt MPH student Muna Munday.  Below we provide a few resources we engaged with as a class.

Picture
This short film created by Next Door Neighbors explores life in the Somali community in Nashville and was originally aired on Nashville Public Television .
This video comes from Inspire Somalia, a UN funded "edutainment" program that attempts to foster participatory norms under conditions of state failure and the sustained influence of Al-Shabaab.  For more information, check out the corresponding episode on Hidden Brain here.
